CAMPOSOL wins a business creativity award with an important enviromental project

Posted On: November 25, 2016

The agro-industrial company CAMPOSOL ranked first in the “Environmental Care” category in the Business Creativity 2016 contest that was organized by Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), which, since two decades ago, recognizes the most striking innovations made by private companies and public institutions in Peru.

The Business Creativity award gives recognition in twenty-two categories, among which the following highlight: “Commitment to society,” “Environmental care,” “Technological and computer development,” “Education,” National public management,” and “Interactive means,” among others. This award is organized by the UPC working together with Canal N (N Channel), Diario El Comercio (El Comercio newspaper) and RPP Noticias (RPP News).

CAMPOSOL’s winning project is entitled: Use of the plant known as “Common water hyacinth” for treating industrial wastewater at CAMPOSOL S.A., district of Chao, province of Virú, La Libertad. This project consists in removing the contaminants present in wastewater with low implementation and maintenance cost. Furthermore, it has positive impacts on environment such as significantly reducing the emission of bad odors, issuance of greenhouse gases and proliferation of plagues, preventing contamination, and reusing the treated water for irrigating green areas.

Jesús Arasti Barrios, Operations Manager, said that this project was highly efficient with regard to its operability as compared with other conventional processes as it achieves, just with the use of aquatic plants, the removal of water contaminants and stabilization of parameters such as pH, oils and fats, BOD, COD, and suspended solids.

“After the treatment, the results exceed efficiently that required by national standards regarding water quality for its reuse in the irrigation of green areas,” he noted.

Likewise, Arasti mentioned that, for CAMPOSOL, the purification process with aquatic plants estimates a saving in its implementation of more than US$ 2,5 million and a saving in maintenance for 10 years of US$ 22,5 million. This is because this method, unlike the conventional process, does not require the application of chemical products to attain the removal of organic matter and stabilization of water quality parameters.

“This treatment system is 100% viable and sustainable and is presented as an alternative to be replicated by several companies that do not have a proper method for purifying wastewater yet, ended Jesús Arastí.

In order to become one of the first suppliers of healthy food in the world, CAMPOSOL chooses the constant innovation as the sole path to follow to obtain the desired success. Therefore, it breaks the conventional mold by making the maximum use of Creativity, a characteristic feature of its collaborators.
